Guest Week 1 - Steph Schock

So!! This week’s guest artist is my really awesome friend Steph Schock! We’ve known each other since we were baby high schoolers drawing anime in art club and it’s crazy to think of where we are now. This is also a first of two pages she’s doing, the conclusion will be up on Tuesday!

But anyways, let’s talk about her cool comic, "Riot Radio"!!

Riot Radio is the story of a post apocalyptic world, and the vast desert left of what used to be the USA. Above this ruined wasteland is the Satellite City, a utopia with technology far beyond anyone’s imaginings, but living there costs a hefty price. Across the desert below there are many drifters, but few are as famed (and badass) as the ladies of Riot Radio, a radio show broadcast from a solar powered van that travels across the land, helping who they can and who calls for help. This team consists of Lady, the host and voice of the show; Ix, Lady’s second in command and all around support; and Rocky, driver, tech, and former assassin.

The story kicks off when the team gets a call for help from an old friend and a city leader with a proposition for them, gather up as many of their allies they can (and there’s a lot), and break into the Satellite City to recover stolen tech that could power the city, introduce new medical marvels, and better the lives of so many down below. Only one problem, it’s a guaranteed suicide mission. But for the girls of Riot Radio, they might just have a chance. Almost.

Steph’s work in Riot Radio is really dang cool. She captures the feeling of an empty vast slightly radioactive desert really well, along with the rebuilding of civilization in the rubble. Riot Radio also features cool fun character designs (including a pair of nb twins who seek and hoard information from just about everywhere), and plenty of queer characters, too! Not to mention the friendship between the three girls feels awesomely casual and natural, exactly the way friends who have been through hell and back with each other should be.

It’s a big adventure like taking a long road trip with a bunch of friends, if it also happened that road trip was across a ruined world with evil robot cops chasing you down. But if that’s your thing, then please give Riot Radio a try!
